Meet Emily an energetic - design loving - fashion lover - DIY extraordinaire. She complies all her loves on her fabulous blog mainstreetchic, where I found her amazing DIY china cabinet project. We also both went to OSU (Oklahoma State University, that is). GO POKES! Now a little bit about Emily…
How would you describe you style? Creative, classic, collected and a little quirky. All good things, I think!
What made you decide to start your blog? I started Main Street Chic for the same reason a lot of people blog- I needed an outlet! I’ve always been a creator, whether it be art, home projects, hair-dos, outfits, you name it. And I just really wanted a way to connect with other creative, like-minded people. It’s been a super positive experience for me.
Have you always been passionate about design? YES! Some of my fondest memories growing up surrounded design. Going antiquing with my mom, picking the color scheme for my ‘big girl’ room when I was 9, dreaming about having a velvet headboard just like my Grandmother’s…. design has always been part of my life
Where do you get most of your interior design inspiration from?Hands down- online. Between blogs, Pinterest and online magazines, it’s almost overwhelming how much inspiration is out there!
Where did you find this beautiful piece of furniture and what was the sole purpose for it in your space? The china cabinet was part of a dining set generously gifted to my Hubs and I from his parents when we got married. Since we’ve moved around a lot and lived in different spaces, it’s served different purposes. In our current house, it’s our bar area! A totally necessary component of any properly functioning home :)
What made you decide to paint it red? Is that your favorite color? As Shelby says in Steel Magnolias, ‘Pink is my signature color’….. And I think red is mine! I know not everyone loves the color, but that’s just fine by me. I love it and it makes me super happy! I totally believe the items in our homes should be things we 100% adore- not just what’s considered ‘cool’ or ‘in.
If you could pick any magazine to read and get your inspiration from which one would you choose? Oh geez just one?! If I only get one pick, I guess I would have to say Lonny. I think they do a great job of exposing new talent and what’s next.
What is your favorite Starbucks drink? Iced skinny hazelnut latte.
Thanks again Emily!
We love designing with color!!

The paper flower collection at @westelm is amazing. I’ve been searching for a little something to spice up this vase from @target. #westelm #target #interiordecor
If you are having a difficult time thinking of creative ways to entertain and trying to make this Christmas the BEST year ever! I would start with the basics. What is more important then spending time with the family around the table. It brings it all home and non the less will always be the center of the home. For the next 11 months it may just collect mail, groceries, and a few boxes but this month make it the centerpiece. Throw color, old napkins that have been the hutch for a few years, grandmas dishes, and the fancy glasses that never get used. Show them off to the world…”hello world!”
With love <3
We would have to agree!
